In 48 hours, the Ugandan Parliament may vote on a brutal new law that carries the death penalty for homosexuality. Thousands of Ugandans could face execution — just for being gay.

About Being Considered “Retarded”

This video made me cry and it probably will you too, but not with sorrow. Because you’ll realize we are terrible fucking people. It’s 10 minutes long, but it is your civic duty to watch it. Please watch it.

Normally you just put shit up on tumblr for people to look at in case they think it is cool or noteworthy. You don’t ever ask something of another person. This goes against that ethos, and for that I’m sorry. It’s a personal plea.

“the biggest problem i have is people refusing our personhood or refusing our cognitive disability because they cannot handle the idea of both at once.”

Yeah, this is complicated and touching and important! Required viewing!

It also helps solidify my thoughts on why campaigns to “end the r-word” don’t sit well with me. Demonizing a word and categorizing it as “off-limits” isn’t an effective way to spread awareness or empathy for any marginalized group of people; the encouragement of questions, conversation, and dialogue is the only way to accomplish that, or at least to skooch a little closer.
